Healthy Snacking

Many people think snacks are junk food, though it doesn't have to be that way.

Snacking can be part of a balanced diet. Eating small portions between meals provides your body with energy to keep you going throughout the day.

  • Healthy eating is not just about the calories consumed, healthy snacks provide fiber and nutrients your body needs.

  • Snacks can curb the feeling of hunger or starvation before lunch or dinner, so you won't "over eat" later.

  • Focus on fiber and protein, choose granola bars, trail mix and nuts. These will keep you feeling full longer.

  • Craving something sweet? Pop Tarts and licorice are low in fat.

  • Pretzels and baked chips are a great way to satisfy mid day hunger.

It's unrealistic to give up sweet treats or salty snacks if you really enjoy them. Like anything else, just remember to include them when considering your total daily nutritional intake.
